Life as a new mum, dad or grandparent

Becoming a parent, or a grandparent, changes everything. Alongside the joy, there can be exhaustion, worry, a sense of not coping, or of no longer quite knowing who you are. Becoming a mother, or a father, is a profound change.

People come to me with all kinds of things: the birth itself, adjusting to life with a baby, returning to work with a young baby, or changes in their relationship with a partner, including who does what at home and with the baby, which so often falls to women.

I see new mums, new dads, partners and co-parents, and new grandparents. Parents who have adopted children are very welcome. If you’re in the middle of the adoption process, a counsellor who specialises in adoption will be best placed to help you.

You’re welcome to ask about bringing your baby to a session, and we can try it. We both need to be able to give you our full attention, and your baby needs to feel safe and not be troubled by what we talk about.

If you’ve been feeling low or anxious since your baby was born, please talk to your GP or health visitor too.

I see people face to face in Wymondham and online via Zoom.

If you’d like to talk about whether counselling might help, please get in touch.
